Active IQ Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Clients with Long-term Conditions (online)

This qualification is aimed at fitness professionals who wish to learn how to provide assistance and support for clients with long term conditions which put their health at risk. It was previously known as GP referral or exercise referral. This course provides the learner with the skills and knowledge to train clients with conditions that would be out of the usual scope of practice for personal trainers and fitness instructors. It covers a wide range of conditions including diabetic and metabolic conditions, cardiorespiratory conditions, musculoskeletal conditions, mental health conditions, cancers, neurological conditions, chronic fatigue syndrome, dementia-related conditions and hypo/hyperthyroidism. Also covered will be information on comorbidities and multimorbidities as well as the side effects and precautions relating to medications for the above.

The course is delivered through online learning with tutor support one-to-one where needed, so it can be started at any time.

Course Content

The course content covers:

• Applied anatomy and physiology for exercise and health at Level 3
• The health landscape
• Managing long term conditions including musculoskeletal, cardiorespiratory, neurological, diabetes & metabolic, mental health, comorbidities, multimorbidities and other conditions
• Behaviour change for clients with long term conditions
• Planning and adapting physical activity for clients with long term conditions

• Level 2 gym instructor or group training
