Active IQ Level 2 Award in Mental Health Awareness
Taught through e-learning plus one online attendance day, this qualification develops understanding of mental health, common disorders and issues, helps reduce stigma and discrimination, and encourages open conversations. You’ll learn to recognise and respond to signs of mental ill health in yourself and others, and to offer appropriate mental health first aid and signposting.
Assessment: e-assessments (written questions & case studies).
Course Content
During the qualification candidates will learn:
Mental Health Awareness
- Definition of mental health and the mental health continuum
 - Stigma, discrimination and common misconceptions
 - Role of the media and key statistical data
 - Duty of care and credible sources of information/support
 - Main signs and symptoms of common conditions:
 - Depression
 - Anxiety disorders (stress, phobias, PTSD)
 - Schizophrenia
 - Eating disorders (anorexia nervosa, bulimia)
 - Addiction and substance misuse
 - Bereavement
 - Self-harm
 - Common treatments and interventions
 - Risk factors associated with mental ill health
 
Mental Health First Aid
- Recognise signs of mental ill health
 - Provide initial help and support
 - Signpost appropriate sources of help
 - Escalate when there is risk of harm
 - Promote good mental health

Assessment and Certification
Assessed via e-assessments (written questions & case studies).
On completion, candidates are awarded the Active IQ Level 2 Award in Mental Health Awareness.
