Active IQ Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy
Our sports massage course is available in Edinburgh, Glasgow and throughout Scotland. Sports massage is ideal for those looking to run their own clinic or work as a freelance massage therapist. It is also ideal for instructors or personal trainers who are looking to add this to their skills, enabling them to offer sports massage in Scotland to their own clients. From simple relaxation for people with active lifestyles to pain relief following sporting injuries, sports massage is possibly the most popular massage therapy available and good massage therapists are in demand across Scotland.
Once booked onto the course you will be given access to the e-learning covering an understanding of units below, you will then attend 6 days covering the practical aspects of the course, these days will be spread out to allow you time to practice your skills in between. We recommend booking well in advance of the attendance days to allow you to revise the theory elements in preparation
Course Content
- • Anatomy and physiology for sports massage including the effects of sports massage on the body systems
- • Principles of health and fitness including the benefits of an active, healthy lifestyle, the effects of exercise on the body, the components of fitness and principles of training and the importance of healthy eating
- • The principles of soft tissue dysfunction including soft tissue
- • Professional practice in sports massage including legislation, scope of practice, professional standards and the principles of professional practice in sports massage
- • Sports massage treatments including the history and development of massage, the fundamentals of sports massage treatments and assessing and screening clients for sports massage treatments

Assessment and Certification
The course is assessed through written questions, assignments, theory assessments and practical observations. Some assessments are completed as home study, some during the attendance days and some on an allocated assessment date. Please note that if you cannot make your allocated assessment date for this course there is an option to change to a different date.
On completion candidates will be awarded with an Active IQ Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy. The qualification is also recognised by the Complementary and Natural Care Council (CNHC), and the General Council for Massage Therapies (GCMT).
