Exercise to Music (includes FEA Step Instructor)



DESCRIPTION

This course is the first step to take if you are interested in becoming a fitness instructor teaching exercise to music classes such as aerobics, bums tums, circuits etc. It is a mixture of home study and practical workshops, referred to as blended learning.  Once you book your space you will be supplied with a course manual and home study support materials covering the exercise and fitness knowledge element of the course (we recommend 70-80 hours of study).  You will then attend your 5 days of training which cover the practical element of the course and return for one day to complete your practical assessment and theory assessments (option to sit theory exams at an earlier day if preferred).  During this course you will learn:

 

Exercise and fitness knowledge (home study) covering:

  • Bones and joints
  • Muscles and muscle actions
  • Cardiovascular and respiratory system 
  • Principles of exercise and fitness
  • Health, safety and welfare in fitness environment
  • Know how to support clients who take part in exercise and physical activity

The practical element of the course will cover:

  • How to plan and teach safe and effective exercise to music sessions
  • The principles of training
  • How to adapt exercise to suit varied fitness levels                                
  • How to use a range of teaching skills
  • The body's systems and its response to exercise
  • Health and safety factors
  • How to motivate and support clients  
  • Music licensing and working with music
  • Choreography                  

Candidates will be assessed through written questions, session planning and will return (usually 2 weeks after the last day) for a final practical exam and 2 multiple choice theory exams.

 

PRE-REQUISITE

 None - however it is recommended that you have attended these types of classes prior to attendance

 

CERTIFICATION

On completion candidates will be awarded a Level 2 YMCA Awards Exercise to Music qualification which is eligible for entry onto REPs (The Register of Exercise Professionals) at level 2 (first year's membership included in this course)

Price: £500 plus VAT (£600) if paid in full on booking, otherwise £541.67 plus VAT (£650)
